Bored...

Been thinking alot lately... (quite amazing, in fact, that I actually think... lol~)

Anyway, been thinking of work, life, future, studies, and yah, manga, novels and la-la land... hahahaha~

Which makes me wonder the following:

- Is it because Society is providing TOO well for us humans now?
- We all take things for granted?
- Parents now provide us EVERYTHING (if they can) because they went through hardship and want the future generations to have an easier life?
- What if we are not that fortunate/ society is not that advanced in the first place?

A few examples:

1. Kid in the 60's/70's VS kids of now

My parents, if they ever talk about the past, tell me that in their time, it was the following:

1. Work, work, and more work.

Money was needed, badly in fact, as families from that generation are BIG. Where else to find money to care for the family other than work?

Schooling? Where's the money to EVEN pay for that loaf of bread on the table?

My own mother tells me that she had to work since young to provide money for housekeeping, and to send her siblings to school. Simply because, she is:

1. Female,
2. Eldest in the rank.
3. No money == no food.

Now, the families today are small (compared to the past). Money became bigger in terms of currency exchange, less mouth to feed.

Children now don't even have to work for the sake of eating, well, not all anyway.
Most of the time, children/teenagers work because they want to buy something, not for the parents, but for themselves.

2. Play? NDS? PSP? Computer? NEWSPAPER???

Like I said, in the 60's/70's, Play???

NDS, PSP, computer, LAZE around?? Newspaper to read??

It's more of marbles, flying kite, bowling, physical sports...

Now, even I am guilty of all the above named electronics. Marbles? flying kite? Yeah right... might as well do them all from my games...

Among other examples...

Because of their experiences, the hardships they faced, we have a better future now.

Because of them, we are richer now physically.

But... Mentally, are we any richer?

Are we even AWARE that we are taking things for granted?

I know of people's parents who give them EVERYTHING, less the sun and the moon of course. Holidays provided for, electronics paid for, hell, even grades in school are determined by money, ie, every A in a subject == money.

Somehow, in a bid to provide security for the future generations, in a bid to NOT let the future generations be free from the harships and have a better tomorrow, we end up spoiled, and thinking that all things provided for are natural; cause we are the offsprings, and who else better to spend in on?

A recent news paper (local) came out that when a mock food rationing day (like during/after war, food rationing time) was conducted among the primary schools and secondary schools, many students do not even know how to eat sweet potatoes, much less the normal SODA biscuits, when there are now chocolate/strawberry/vegetable biscuits to eat. (Well, I would at least peel off the skins of the potatoes before eating them anyway...)

What has happened along the way, when the sixties became the seventies, all the way to the twenty-first century??

Who can say marbles, kite flying is still being played/done today? The last time I even saw a kite was like... Donkey years ago... Marbles? Hell, where I'm concerned, they belong in the fish tank as a decoration!!

Would we have been better off if we were not THAT well off now? If we had stopped revolution somewhere in the 80's to the 90's??

Hmm... I wonder~~
